Warehouse Supervisor, 1st Shift

OVERVIEW:

Responsible for effectively leading the warehouse teams and activities. Directly supervising the Raw Materials Warehouses and Dispatch Center. Plans, assigns and oversees the work of all employees engaged in daily warehouse activities. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizations policies and operational goals. Trains employees in company policies and procedures, safety guidelines, forklift safety, general warehouse operations, and conducts performance evaluations and handles other employee related topics or issues.

 

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Focuses on meeting daily warehouse targets, using knowledge of proper material handling and storage procedures and skill capabilities; accomplishes work results, establishes priorities, monitors progress; revises schedules, and resolves problems.
  • Leads and ensures shift meetings occur to review SQCDI performance and facilitates continuous improvement efforts in Safety, Quality, Efficiency and Lead Time. Achieves results through coordinating and managing the improvement activities within the Warehouse team.
  • Uses Lean methods to improve production methods and equipment performance, and drives changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of department.
  • Promotes a safe work environment through Safety Audits and reports potential safety hazards to the EHS Manager with immediate implementation of Prevention Reoccurrence Plans to eliminate all safety concerns.
  • Leads all injury investigations in their department and drives completion of the root cause analysis when applicable utilizing Practical Problem Solving Methodology.
  • Assures all departmental quality/process records comply with current ISO/ITAR standards and requirements for documentation control. Assures all employees follow work instructions and ISO/ITAR procedures.
  • Interprets and enforces Company policies and procedures to employees. Resolves personnel issues by analyzing data, investigating situations properly, identifying solutions and recommending action.
  • Maintains safe and clean work environments by educating and directing employees on the use of all control points, equipment, and resources. Maintains compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Leads continuous improvement and 5S/6S activities in the work areas and enforcing discipline to follow standards while maintaining organization and cleanliness in the warehouse
  • Champions Tier 1 & Tier 2 Layered Process Audits – continuously coaching Team Leads and team members to follow and improve standards while driving improvements and facilitating action item completion
  • Investigates and Resolves any material discrepancies in the warehouse including receiving, picking and transaction errors.
  • Recommends personnel actions to include promotions, transfers, discharges, and disciplinary measures. Monitors and appraises employees' performance and development requirements and conducts Performance Reviews to enhance productivity and efficiency. Coaches, counsels, and disciplines employees. Takes responsibility and is held accountable for all work performed by subordinates.
  • Responsible for staff recruitment by providing oversight of the selection and orientation of new team members.
  • Oversees and ensures that materials are being received correctly. Compares identifying information of incoming shipments against packing slips, bills of lading and other records. Ensures accurate receipt, proper labeling and slotting or distribution of incoming materials.
  • Ensures that employees inspect their own work and that all standard operating procedures are being implemented in order to maintain quality standards set by the company.
  • Aligns with and supports other area supervisors to ensure success of all warehouse related areas, functions and activities. Promote a team environment throughout and provide cross-functional support.
  • Assists with the inventory function, which includes assigning cycle count activities, researching discrepancies, and assisting with coordination of physical inventories.
  • Safely and effectively operates all powered industrial equipment to load or unload trucks or move, convey or hoist materials to and from the warehouse, manufacturing and shipping areas. 
  • Participates in the selection of work orders, kits and point of use parts orders as needed to ensure timely delivery of parts and materials required for manufacturing.
  • Coordinates and participates in all activities associated with the processing of inbound goods for storage.
  • Drives the planning and execution of warehouse related projects and improvements.
  • Manages and is responsible for all training of all warehouse team members. Trains employees in the proper methods of picking, kitting, receiving and product slotting via RF scanning units..
  • Trains employees in company policies and procedures, safety guidelines, and general warehouse operations using standard operating procedures (SOPs) as guidelines.
  • Organizes and conducts forklift training classes for department personnel.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

 

WHAT YOU'LL NEED: 

  • Associates degree or equivalent combination of training and work experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment, required.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ leadership experience in a manufacturing setting.
  • Experience with managing manufacturing material inventory
  • Experience writing SOPs and training employees.
  • Must have basic knowledge use of SAP.
  • Must have basic knowledge of MS Word and Excel.
  • Must have ability to operate UPS shipping system.
  • Must be certified to drive all industrial powered trucks utilized by the warehouse operations.

  • Must be able to operate in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ensures that staff is contributing at maximum potential through rigorous hiring practices and an emphasis on training and development initiatives, including coaching and counseling direct reports in their performance and professional development, with final authority for approving pay increases, hiring decisions and disciplinary actions.
  • Emphasizes ethical leadership and decision-making to protect Pelican’s brand and reputation.
  • Establishes challenging, productive and achievable goals for direct reports; measure results by establishing checkpoints to track progress.
  • Must be able to travel, nationally and internationally, as necessary.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be frequently required to execute standard physical activities within the facility areas (i.e. stand, walk, sit, use hands/fingers).
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be frequently required to execute non-standard physical activities within the facility areas (i.e. climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch).
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
  • This position requires repetitive hand/wrist activities.
