While Pelican Products has made a name for itself as the global leader in the design and manufacture of advanced lighting systems and technical packaging solutions, our growth in the consumer outdoor market has been nothing less than phenomenal 2019 is expected to be another record-breaking year for the consumer team and with this continued success and rapid growth, we need to expand our existing operations support team in Asia.  We are looking for a highly motivated Sourcing Specialist to work in the Shenzhen area to support the the design and manufacture of Consumer Electronics products.


Our ideal candidate will manage the supply chain side of multiple new product development projects sourced from Asia, including identifying new suppliers and managing existing supplier relationships, solicits requests for bids and quotations, and negotiating favorable pricing, terms and conditions.  You will assist Pelican Product Management with the gathering of business intelligence to aid the design and development of future products and work closely with New Product Development team to ensure that vendors adhere to launch plans resulting in a smooth and predictable flow of production.  You will keep abreast of production shortages and act as a liaison to resolve production issues or supplier delays.

  1. Manages the supply chain side of multiple new product development projects sourced from Asia.
  2. Develops and manages effective relationships with suppliers.
  3. Gathers business intelligence regarding products relevant to the product portfolio.
  4. Prepares for and develops strategies and tactics for negotiations, including cost-down initiatives.
  5. Recommends and implements changes in purchasing  and material management policies as needed.
  6. Participates in product “make-or-buy” privatization, or outsourcing decisions.
  7. Solicits requests for bids and quotations with pertinent specifications, terms, and conditions.
  8. Conducts supplier visits and evaluations to determine suitability of partnerships, and maintains and analyzes rating system for supplier performance as established in ISO procedures.
  9. Resolves disputes or differences with suppliers regarding pricing, delivery, service, quality, or payment.
  10. Follows, develops and improves RFQ (Request For Quote) process, especially as it relates to new products.
  11. Verifies that purchasing practices comply with established laws, policies and ethical principles.
  12. Actively supports and participates in Pelican’s Quality Management System activities and ensures that standard operating procedures are developed, executed and updated in accordance with ISO guidelines.
  13. Ensures vendors operate within ethical guidelines as outlined in Pelican’s Code of Ethics & Corporate Conduct.
  14. Actively supports Pelican’s commitment to Quality and all quality objectives, with an emphasis on continual improvement.
  15. Performs additional duties as assigned by Asia Vendor Manager and Director of Worldwide Sourcing.




  1. BS in Business or related field and 5 to 8 years’ experience in Sourcing/Procurement.
  2. Strong working knowledge of manufacturing technology, materials and assembly processes.
  3. Strong electro-mechanical or consumer outdoor products background.
  4. Knowledge of International procurement procedures and practices.
  5. Ability to interpret technical specifications and drawings, and ability to work well with engineering team required.
  6. Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, both English and whichever language(s) apply to assigned region.
  7. Must possess excellent analytical, organizational skills, be detail-oriented and able to work under minimum supervision.
  8. Ability to negotiate favorable terms and conditions involving a large number of parts and supplies, as well as have the ability to determine appropriate methods of procurement. 
  9. Competence with regard to vendor selection and analysis is required; must be able to resolve differences with regard to supplier costs, quality, deliveries and payments.
  10. Must be able to and interact effectively with employees at all levels.
  11. Must be proficient with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project, and SAP.
  12. Must demonstrate solid judgment and champion ethical business practices at all times.
  13. Must have the ability to complete assignments within time frame and budget specified.
  14. Must be flexible with work schedules and be available to work overtime on evenings and weekends, with or without advanced notice.
  15. Must be able to operate in a fast-paced organization and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  16. Must be able to travel both locally (daily) and internationally (within assigned region and USA) as necessary.
