OVERVIEW:

Under minimal supervision, responsible for all aspects of research and development involving conceptualization, production implementation and post-launch support in a cross-functional team environment. Responsible for primary research, approval of manufacturing processes, material selection and approval, current product line extension and product improvement projects, managing multiple projects concurrently. May direct activities of other engineers and technicians.  Position to be global in scope and will involve some international travel

 

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Provides global technical resource for product, process and materials development.
  • Manages multiple projects and leads efforts of cross function team members to release new products, processes, procedures, materials from concept to production on time and on budget
  • Develops appropriate test plans, test methods and analyzes and resolves quality assurance issues.
  • Recommends procedures that will result in cost savings, maximization of production, and quality improvement.
  • Maintain an up to date awareness of advancements within polymer science field.
  • Act as liaison for the company with vendors and customers on various projects.
  • Actively supports Pelican’s commitment to Quality and all quality objectives, with an emphasis on continual improvement.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by the Director of Product Development & Engineering
  • Follows company policies and practices as outlined in the Employee Handbook and/or applicable employment agreement. Follows safety guidelines and procedures in accordance to the job.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

 

WHAT YOU'LL NEED: 

Qualifications include:

  • BS degree in Polymer Engineering, Material Science or Equivalent
  • Minimum of 5-10 years of research practice, product design and project management experience with increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Proven success in leading a cross-functional product development teams to deliver projects on time and within budget.
  • Design experience of low cost, high volume, high quality products.
  • Out-of-the box creative thinker, problem solver, a mentor and collaborator.
  • Resourceful and innovative in developing new product ideas, use of new technologies and implementing product improvement projects.
  • Experience in injection molded and rotational molded plastic component design, tooling and assembly methods.
  • Self-motivated result-oriented individual with a “can do” attitude.
  • Excellent theoretical and practical knowledge of design and mechanical engineering concepts.
  • Proficiency in 3D solid modeling CAD software (SolidWorks preferred) and analysis tools and methods.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

  1. Must be able to operate in a fast-paced organization and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  2. Must have the ability to complete assignments within time frame specified by the Director of Product Development & Engineering.
  3. Must be ready, willing and able to travel to vendors to discuss technical issues. Passport will be necessary as job may require some overseas travel.
  4. Must be flexible with work schedules and be available to work on evenings and weekends, with or without advanced notice.
  5. Must be US Citizen

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be frequently required to execute standard physical activities within the facility areas (i.e. stand, walk, sit, use hands/fingers).
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be occasionally required to execute non-standard physical activities within the facility areas (i.e. climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch).
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
  • This position requires repetitive hand/wrist activities.
