Under minimal supervision, purchase materials and supplies to maintain the monthly production requirements. Coordinate shipments with vendors, monitor inventory levels, and make recommendations for improvements and processes. Assist other buyers as required and perform other tasks assigned by the Supply Chain Manager or Director of Operations


What You’ll Do:

  • Purchase materials and supplies according to approved requisitions, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) or management requests.
  • Evaluate supplier and logistic partners’ performance and pricing and make recommendations.
  • Act as primary point of contact for the entire negotiation process.
  • Negotiate pricing terms and conditions with suppliers, logistic partners, and service providers and make recommendations for selection.
  • Negotiate contracts and process purchase orders as required.
  • Negotiate transportation rates and/or services, audit freight cost and documentation, and obtain management approval.
  • Trace, track, and expedite purchase processes to ensure timely delivery of goods, changing vendors, quantities, and dates when necessary.
  • Interact with third party logistic service providers on a regular basis.
  • Resolve problems and track data as needed concerning transportation, systems, imports/exports, or customs issues.
  • Administer new supplier qualification process as outlined in ISO procedures.
  • Regularly audit and support data integrity for purchased parts in SAP’s Material Master and place orders for stock replenishments and provide periodic updates to management.
  • Facilitate ERP administration for new vendors and products and confirm data entry and information is correct.
  • Support commodity management strategies and tactical plans including providing suggestions for changes and improvements.
  • Support spend-productivity programs, including but not limited to, make/buy, alternate supplier strategy, supplier consolidation, low cost country sourcing, including program development and improvement.
  • Actively support New Product Development teams to provide sourced solutions and optimize the supply chain.
  • Reconcile inventory and invoices for the purpose of identifying discrepancies and manage the resolution process.
  • Identify supply risk and provide potential solutions and mitigation plans.
  • Perform root cause analysis for stock outs, missed deliveries, and non-conforming product to proactively drive permanent solutions/processes.
  • Prepare and issue Requests for Quotations (RFQs) to appropriate suppliers within specified time frames.
  • Recommend changes in purchasing and material management policies as needed.
  • Verify purchasing practices comply with established laws, policies, and ethical principles.
  • Follow, maintain, and enforce ISO standards and all compliance requirements.
  • Analyze vendor ratings based on quality, service, and delivery.
  • Communicate directly with key domestic and international Consumer Electronics (CE) customers and 3PLs either by telephone, electronically, or face to face.
  • Participate in weekly meetings to review orders and stock levels and decide on next steps with regards to new orders, product transition, and stock allocation.
  • Process key CE customers’ orders, forms, and requests within specified timeframes.
  • Actively support Pelican’s commitment to Quality and all quality objectives, with an emphasis on continual improvement.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Consumer Electronics Supply Chain Manager or Director of Operation Consumer Electronics.
  • Follows company policies and practices as outlined in the Employee Handbook and/or applicable employment agreement. Follows safety guidelines and procedures in accordance to the job.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.


What You’ll Need:

  • AA and/or BS or equivalent in Business or related field.
  • 3 to 5 years’ experience in Purchasing or related field.
  • APICS, CPIM and/or purchasing certificate preferred.
  • Must be proficient and have direct experience with ERP system.
  • Contract negotiation skills and experience preferred.
  • Ability to speak Mandarin/Cantonese preferred.
  • Must be a reliable self-starter with ability to work independently, make logical decisions and handle directions responsibly.
  • Must have very good analytical ability and excellent computation skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, professional phone etiquette, and knowledge of accounting principles.
  • Must be proficient in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint and have very good typing abilities.
  • Must be eligible to receive information controlled under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
  • Must be able to interact effectively and cooperatively with employees at all levels.
  • Must be able to operate in a fast-paced organization and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Must be flexible with work schedules; available to work evenings and weekends, with or without advanced notice.
  • Must be able to complete assignments within time frames specified by the Supply Chain Manager or Director of Operations.
  • Must be available to travel occasionally on an as-needed basis.
  • Actively supports and complies with Pelican’s objectives, guidelines and commitment to Quality and Safety, with an emphasis on continual improvement.
  • Must be able to interact effectively and cooperatively with employees at all levels.
  • Must have the ability to complete assignments within the timeframe specified by the Manager.
  • Must be flexible regarding working hours and overtime. Must be able to work overtime on evenings and weekends, with or without advanced notice.
  • Must be able to operate in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Must be able to travel, nationally and internationally, as necessary.
