Engineering Project Manager

OVERVIEW
The primary role of the Engineering Project Manager (PM) is to lead the overall product development projects.  This includes, but is not limited to, defining the project's success parameters (i.e. specifications/requirements, scope, budget, schedule, resource targets), setting up good communication channels across all project interfaces, tracking and adjusting plans when necessary, communicating major status, issues, and risks to senior management, and delivering the project's parameters to their commitments.  The PM is capable of managing projects of high complexity from conception, development, production implementation and through post-launch support in a cross-functional team environment for various product lines.  Key to success is the development of clear, concise product requirements and leadership of the development team to achieve timely product delivery and the cost effective deployment of products and processes that satisfy the business’ and user needs and achieve financial, market and business objectives.  Other responsibilities include leading the team through the New Product Development (NPD) Process, assisting in the development and improvement of NDP, and ensuring that all necessary process requirements are met.
Must be able to communicate and motivate project teams to anticipate and identify risks associated with the project. Leads the development of mitigation plans and contingencies to deliver the required results. Interface with personnel from all levels including Research and Development, Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Marketing, Operations, and Purchasing.  Responsible for evaluating complex issues and developing innovative solutions while working with both local and overseas teams. 


WHAT YOU'LL DO: 

•    Develops, coordinates, and maintains comprehensive project plans, work schedules, and budgets involving multiple departments and monitors projects to ensure adherence to timelines, cost constraints and quality standards.
•    Establishes task time frames with managers/executives, monitors progress, and resolves schedule issues in order to ensure that projects are completed within set parameters.
•    Creates project charts and obtains regular updates from project team members.
•    Meet budgetary objectives and make adjustments to project constraints based on financial analysis.
•    Ensure that all projects are delivered on-time, within scope and within budget.
•    Works with department managers to anticipate project delays and develop expediting plans to bring projects into line with schedules.
•    Ensures timely issue resolution and appropriate issue escalation.
•    Leads and influences teams in decision making, schedule adherence and scope management.
•    Ensures appropriate priorities assigned to critical Project tasks.
•    Plans and arranges management reviews with concise project updates.
•    Monitors change management process within teams.
•    Projects will vary and include full product development projects, customer requested projects, product customization, product iterations, customer commercialization plans, 
•    Lead the team through the Product Development Process; ensure the creation of necessary deliverables for all Phases, Gate Meetings, and Design Reviews. 
•    Ensure proper documentation is completed for each development activity, and that adequate documentation exists for product manufacturing
•    Leverages past experience and strong communication skills to collaborate closely with engineering, other project managers, marketing, quality, supply chain, and operations to meet ambitious project development timelines.
•    Proactively identify project risk areas and create plans for avoiding the identified risks
•    Create efficient systems for project communication, such as team meetings, sub-team meetings, project reviews, and documentation repositories.
•    Helps create financial analysis and justification for project approval and payback. 
•    Follows company policies and practices as outlined in the Employee Handbook, AWAIR and/or applicable employment agreement. Follows safety guidelines and procedures in accordance to the job.
•    Performs additional duties as assigned.


WHAT YOU'LL NEED: 

•    Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical Engineering. 
•    Minimum of 3 years of engineering experience in a product development and manufacturing environment. 
•    Minimum of 3 years of engineering project management experience. 
•    Strong technical skills and understanding or thermal, mechanical, materials and testing principles.
•    Good problem-solving skills and with a creative approach for new ideas. 
•    Experience with verification and validation methods, FMEA’s, and other product quality and reliability methods.
•    Proven success in leading a cross-functional product development teams to deliver projects on time and within budget preferred.
•    Must be able to travel to visit customers, suppliers, subcontractors or other Peli/Pelican sites as and when necessary.
•    Must be able to interact effectively and diplomatically with all company personnel under minimum supervision and be responsive to the requirements of department members and other departments with whom interaction is necessary. 
•    Must have time and project management ability to lead and manage small to large-scale projects; willing to be proactive, take initiative and follow-up to ensure project deadlines are met.
•    Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and have strong organizational skills.
•    Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills. 
•    Understands basic revenue models, P&L, and cost-to-completion projections and makes decisions accordingly. 
•    Must be proficient with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Project, Excel and other appropriate software.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
•    Project Management Institute certified (PMP, CPM, or APMC) or similar qualification. 
•    Experience with Lean Product Development and Visual Project Management methods.
