The Product Development Engineer II is responsible for managing key projects and supporting product design and new product introduction into production.  This position requires the ability to work independently and meet critical deadlines.


What You'll Do:

  • Manages design projects from an initial brief by liaising with customers during the development process.
  • Designs and qualifies custom insulated shipping systems to customer specifications.
  • Works closely with the Sales Department on customer projects.
  • Visits customer sites to work on specific projects or to support a sales inquiry.
  • Provides technical product support to customers and colleagues within Sales and other internal departments, recommending appropriate solutions where required.
  • Prepares laboratory tests using approved process, equipment, and materials.
  • Use of SmartCAE, Ansys, and other mathematical modeling to define and design thermal packaging.
  • Use thermal and material science knowledge and analsys to develop new insulation and phase change materials for thermal packaging designs.
  • Writes technical documentation to required standards; to include:
    • Engineering Memos
    • Qualification Protocols and Reports
    • Performance Summaries
    • Assembly Posters
  • Maintains documentation using the change control system.
  • Collects and archives data for the upkeep of technical documentation to ensure accuracy.
  • Creates 3D CAD models of packaging components and system assemblies.
  • Creates 2D Technical Drawings to required standard from 3D CAD models.
  • Creates animations using CAD software from 3D CAD models.
  • Transfers 3D CAD models to thermal simulation software, setup and run simulations.
  • Performs required measurements, interpret, evaluate, and reports results.
  • Ensures adherence to all procedures and processes set up within the Quality System.
  • Contributes to the continuous improvement of the Quality Systems in use within the company.
  • Is able to establish and present Design Intent and Design Concept principles in alignment with the NPD process. 
  • Designs new products and/or modifies current products to meet customer needs.
  • Creates prototypes of the products to develop and makes design improvements based on prototype testing.
  • Assesses new product innovations and builds prototypes for Research and Development.
  • Creates Bill of Materials in CAD and/or ERP systems.
  • Manages and writes Engineer Change Orders (ECO).


What You'll Need:

  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of related engineering experience in a manufacturing or packaging environment, or at least 3 years experience with a Master’s degree.
  • A working understanding of the fundamentals of Heat Transfer.
  • Experience applying thermal modeling and analysis to complex system design.
  • Experience with a thermal modeling software package.
  • Experience with SolidWorks CAD and thermal simulation software is highly preferred.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and other appropriate software.
  • Must have time and project management ability to lead and manage large-scale projects.  Must be willing to be proactive, take initiative and follow-up to ensure project deadlines are met.
  • Must be able to manage multiple assignments simultaneously and have strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and oversee multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. Effective time management skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Good problem-solving skills and have a creative approach for new ideas.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Must be able to interact effectively and cooperatively with customers and employees at all levels of the company.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to execute physical activities within the lab and production areas (i.e. stand, walk, sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch). Ability to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
