The Mechanical Drafter Technician I is responsible for creating technical CAD documents to support the release and maintenance of new and existing products. This position will participate in design meetings; develops concepts using CAD and produces final design specifications.  This position requires the ability to work independently and meet critical deadlines.


What You’ll Do:


  • Create technical documentation such as drawings, technical files, installation instructions and work instructions to ensure high quality engineering information is provided to all customers and comply with drawing and configuration management standards.
  • Assist with designing new products and modifying current products using computer-aided design software.
  • Assist Designers with creating product prototypes to assist in design improvements.
  • Conduct required testing, verify product performance, system integration and compliance with applicable standards.
  • Verify the work of others to ensure drawings and documents are accurate; to include Drafters and Engineers.
  • Follows engineering change management process to control design releases and modifications.
  • Utilizes a creative approach for generating new ideas.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve manufacturing issues and make other improvements with product designs as necessary.
  • Create and maintains Bill of Material structures in CAD, SAP, and ERP systems for all new parts and solutions.
  • Consults with manager, suppliers, engineering specialists and other departments to execute job assignments consisting of specifications, calculations, and analysis and material/component selection.
  • Ensure design for manufacturability, design for cost, design for service and overall DFx of products.
  • Assists Research and Development teams by assessing new products and to ensure innovative results.
  • Coordinates assigned projects from initiation that includes resource management, materials, scheduling, budgeting, implementation, and completion.
  • Follows company policies and practices as outlined in Handbook and follow guidelines regarding safety as outline in the AWAIR, and other safety procedures in accordance to the job.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.


What You’ll Need:


  • Requires 2-year technical degree or equivalent.
  • Possess skills in mechanical drawing.
  • Proficient in: SolidWorks or similar system, modeling, assemblies, drawings, BOM’s, configurations, templates, etc.
  • Knowledgeable in mathematics, science, and engineering technology.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and assignments simultaneously.
  • Must be proactive and have the ability to take initiative and follow-up to ensure projects are completed.
  • Excellent documentation, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Good problem-solving skills and a creative approach for new ideas.
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues to resolution.
  • The ability to prioritize, plan effectively, work under pressure and to deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Must be able to work in a team and possess good team working skills.
  • Must be able to operate in a fast-paced organization and be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Must be able to interact effectively and cooperatively with employees at all levels.
  • Must have the ability to complete assignments within the time frame specified by the Manager.
  • Must be flexible regarding working hours and overtime. Must be able to work overtime on evenings and weekends, with or without advanced notice.


Bonus Points For:


  • 2 years CAD experience.
  • Knowledge of the Cold Chain industry.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be occasionally required to execute standard physical activities within the facility areas (i.e. stand, walk, sit, use hands/fingers).
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be occasionally required to executive non-standard physical activities within the facility areas (i.e. climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch).
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
