SUMMARY

 

The scope of responsibilities includes Service Center operations, process and equipment validation.  This position will work cross functionally with external business partners (vendors) to ensure that all operations meet Pelican BioThermal requirements.  The Operations Engineer is the first point of contact on existing product line issues, customer-reported product defects, and operations assistance.  This position will provide operations process, quality, and technical management to Pelican/Peli BioThermal internal and external operations for existing product line lifecycle from ongoing management to end-of-life.  Responsible for the overall coordination and implementation of Operations engineering projects and assignments which includes sustaining engineering, cost reductions, product process instructions, and resolution of quality issues. Investigates Operations costs/issues and suggests design process adjustments and improvements. Operates under minimal supervision. 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Operational Support

  • Develop and implement optimal, cost-effective Operations assembly processes and methods in accordance with product specifications and quality standards.
  • Provide recommendations and cost-justification to implement and manage equipment, fixtures, tooling and automation equipment as necessary to the Operations Manager; this may include installation qualification (IQ), operational qualification (OQ), and process qualification (PQ) of additional equipment capacity
  • Optimizes workflow and performs capacity analysis for fluctuating demand
  • Support external business partners in ongoing technical and engineering service operations activities
  • Educate and train Service Centre Operatives and Service Partners on new Operations and workflow processes; support any related train-the-trainer programs
  • Hands-on ability to repair and upgrade mechanical systems, for example pneumatics, hoisting equipment
  • Investigate operational issues relating to process or equipment
  • Prepare and maintain detailed layouts of building(s) and equipment and asset registers for Services Operations equipment
  • Coordinates the service operations launch of new/revised products including establishing goals, training team members and evaluating results
  • Represents operations on cross-functional teams in engineering design reviews for feasibility and accuracy
     

Quality Support

  • Assures product and process quality by designing testing methods; testing finished product and process capabilities; establishing standards; confirming operations processes
  • Monitor the effectiveness of any engineering-related corrective actions
  • Participate in audits as required

Technical Support

  • Provide ongoing process and technical support for services projects, equipment, and processes, including operations and quality capabilities, and cost estimates throughout projects.  This includes internal support, vendors, and/or clients
  • Scope and specify equipment, tooling, etc.
  • Participate in applicable new product development for new product introductions; provide repair guidance, support, or execution at designated locations of existing product lines. Provide feedback to Design Engineering in regard to process, components, drawings, etc.
  • Follow and update of applicable test protocols and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) across responsible service center operations (including external Business Partners)
  • Support Root Cause Investigation data collection and analysis, working closely with Design Engineering on identifying the needs for design improvements.
  • Review/approve engineering change orders relating to supported product lines
  • Support equipment and automation as needed
  • Oversee the Preventative Maintenance Program for product, equipment and tooling
  • Plan and prioritize workload in order to meet required deadlines and performance standards.
     

Continuous Improvement

  • Implement global BioThermal Continuous Improvement Initiatives
  • Research, recommend and implement improvements to production processes, procedures, systems, equipment, methods, and controls to improve efficiency and safety while reducing costs
     
  • Follows company policies and practices as outlined in the Employee Handbook and/or applicable employment agreement. Follows safety guidelines and procedures in accordance to the job.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
    JOB REQUIREMENTS                                          
  • Previous experience with coordination, execution and control and completion of projects
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
  • Must be able to operate in a fast-paced organization, manage multiple projects simultaneously and possess strong organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines
  • Must be able to interact effectively and diplomatically with customers, vendors and employees at all levels within the company
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and other appropriate software programs.
  • Must be flexible regarding working hours and overtime.  Must be able to work overtime on evenings and weekends, with or without advanced notice

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: (if any)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent recognized engineering qualification with two to four years of related experience in Engineering or Operations (global Pharmaceutical or Medical Device industry experience is preferred)
  • Previous experience in cost reduction, process improvement, and supporting existing product lines and product development is preferred
  • Certification and experience in Lean and/or Six Sigma, Green Belt certification or above preferred.
  • AutoCAD experience beneficial

  • Must be flexible regarding working hours.
  • Must be able to operate in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Must be able to travel, nationally and internationally upto 50% of time as necessary.
